Position:
Senior Device Design Engineer
Location: Ithaca, New York
Description: The Senior Device Design Engineer is responsible for device aspects of the design, development, and validation of integrated photonic products based on BinOptics etched facet technology.
Responsibilities:
- III-V laser and photodiode and design using commercial and in-house developed software tools
- Design, simulation, testing and analysis of lasers and photodiodes for integrated, high speed, and high power products
- Provide experience and guidance in design of experiments, laser fabrication and testing to SONET and Ethernet standards
- Work with process development and engineering to define the fabrication process, mask layout, process flow and test requirements
- Provide input and feedback on packaging concepts and optics requirements
- Responsible for advancing the key understanding of other team members
- Test devices and/or work with characterization personnel to confirm that products work to design objectives
Requirements:
- 5-10 years experience in the optoelectronics field with a proven track record in SONET or transceiver laser and photodiode design from development to manufacture
- Demonstrated understanding of epitaxial design, electrical and optical simulation, III-V semiconductor fabrication processes including dry and wet chemistries and thin Film analysis
- Understanding of packaging interactions with device structures at frequencies up to 10GHz. Understanding of HFSS is advantageous
- Team player with good communication skills and strong technical writing ability
- PhD/Masters in Physics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience required
Other Desired Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with commercial design packages for examples: FIMMWAVE, i-Claddis, BeamProp, LaserMOD, OptoSIM, Atlas/Blaze and Zeemax
- Strong characterization skills and familiarity with RIN, reliability testing, jitter, laser/photodiode testing and qualification standards
- Understanding of manufacturing flow, ISO9001, GR-253 and development protocols
