BinOptics Names Dr. Norman Kwong as EVP of Business Development

Ithaca, NY, October 10, 2006 – BinOptics Corporation, a manufacturer of integrated microphotonic components for optical communications and data storage applications, today announced the appointment of Dr. Norman Kwong as executive vice president of business development. Dr. Kwong is a well-respected contributor to the photonics industry and co-founder of Archcom Technology Inc., Azuza, CA, where he was the chief technology officer.

During his time at Archcom, he performed a wide range of senior management functions, including technology and product development; sales and marketing; business development; and financial management. Previously, Dr. Kwong was the director of advance technology at JDS Uniphase, where he was involved in corporate technology strategy and due diligence, and chairman of the corporate reliability council. He was also VP and general manager of the telecom business unit at Ortel Corporation (later acquired by Lucent, Agere and Emcore). Dr. Kwong earned his Ph.D in Physics at the California Institute of Technology.

Commenting on his decision to join BinOptics, Dr. Kwong said: “I have been intrigued by the potential of BinOptics’ etched facet approach for a number of years. In the current environment, this kind of innovation is becoming more and more important for meeting customer demands for low-cost, high-reliability, high- performance lasers and integrated photonic chips in high volumes. I am pleased to be able to join BinOptics at this critical point in its development and look forward to contributing in many ways to its growth.”
