BinOptics Names Richard J. Haug as VP of Operations
Ithaca, NY, September 25, 2006 – BinOptics Corporation, a manufacturer of integrated microphotonic components for optical communications and data storage applications, today announced the appointment of Richard J. Haug as Vice-President of Operations.
Mr. Haug began his career at Texas Instruments in Houston, TX, where he managed DRAM manufacturing equipment operations and played an integral role in the start-up of a high-volume CMOS production facility. He then was named Director I.C. Support Operations at the RCA Microelectronics Center in Somerville, NJ. Mr. Haug served on the integration team that orchestrated the merger of RCA’s and General Electric’s microelectronics businesses at GE’s Research Triangle Park, NC site, where he managed all manufacturing and support operations until it was purchased by Harris Corporation in 1990.
Mr Haug then joined a high-tech start-up company called Thunderbird Technologies as Vice President of Operations and since 1993 has been Vice President of Manufacturing Operations for eMagin (previously FED Corp.) in Hopewell Junction, NY. As a member of the executive team, Mr. Haug was instrumental in taking this company from a start-up to a key supplier of micro-displays to the military and industrial marketplace.
Mr. Haug received his BBA from the University of Hawaii in 1980 and an MBA from Duke University in 1990.
Commenting on his decision to join BinOptics, Mr. Haug said: “BinOptics has reached the point in its growth where experienced operations management is required to meet customer demand. I enjoy this phase in a company’s development and am looking forward to working with the existing team to move BinOptics to the next level in operations efficiency, quality, and capacity.”
Dr. Alex Behfar, BinOptics’ chairman and CEO, said: “Rick is just the kind of experienced management professional that the company needs at this time. He is a customer-focused executive with a strong track record in semiconductor manufacturing. Moreover, he has been successful in start-up and large-company environments as well as the challenging transition between them. I am confident that his extensive operations experience will enable BinOptics to rapidly deliver its innovative products in volume to our customers. We welcome him to our Ithaca, NY team and look forward to his contributions to BinOptics’ growth.”
